You could say that Groovemaker was the “application that launched a company.” The GrooveMaker application was the first music product released by IK Multimedia in 1997, debuting on an interactive sampling CD-ROM called AXE’ allowing users to remix Brazilian percussions in over 20 million of different groove combinations.
The first full version of GrooveMaker was released in mid 1998 with a double CD compilation of dance songs called Dancity and in 1999 the application was distributed by Cakewalk in North America. With patented “groove generation” technology, GrooveMaker allowed users to produce millions of great sounding music grooves in real time, and required no musical production background.
At the 2000 NAMM show, GrooveMaker version 2 was released, and a collection complete genre sound libraries was released shortly thereafter.
The computer music market was in its infancy, and the with the introduction of recording and music production technologies for the PC, IK Multimedia focused on the development of professional music software tools, becoming one of the leaders in the computer music market. Today, IK Multimedia creates software and hardware tools for the computer recording and performance enthusiast including effects, instruments, sounds for every style of music, plus high-quality hardware interfaces and software MIDI controllers.
When the iPhone was released in 2007, IK Multimedia realized the potential of this new device as a portable music creation tool, and in 2008 started the development of its first application.
With the release of the GrooveMaker for iPhone/iPod Touch in 2009, IK Multimedia once again revolutionizes music making, bringing the power and ease of use of GrooveMaker to anyone wanting to produce high-quality music tracks, truly anywhere. In 2010, IK Multimedia takes groove and beat remixing to the next level thanks to Apple’s large multi-touch device and unveils GrooveMaker for the iPad.
